Can You Take Three Big Suitcases on the Airport Limousine Bus?

Three large suitcases on a Seoul airport bus is possible but not guaranteed. Here is what the rules say, what actually happens, and when a taxi or delivery service makes more sense.

Quick Answer
  • Airport limousine buses officially allow one piece of baggage per ticket — but enforcement depends on available space and driver discretion
  • Boarding earlier in the route (before Hongdae or Hongik) when buses are less full improves your chances significantly
  • Paying for a second ticket is sometimes accepted but is not a guaranteed policy across all routes
  • For three large suitcases, a jumbo taxi, call van (콜밴), or airport luggage delivery service is less stressful
  • Airport luggage delivery (공항 수하물 배송) sends bags directly to your address before or after your flight
  • AREX (Airport Express train) has no luggage limit and is a reliable alternative for heavy loads

Bus policies and enforcement vary by route, time, and driver. Confirm current luggage rules with the bus operator before travel.

Airport limousine buses are the most popular way to travel between Seoul and Incheon Airport. They are comfortable, affordable, and drop off near most major neighborhoods. But they are not designed for people traveling with multiple large suitcases, and the official rules around luggage are less clear than most people expect.

What the Official Policy Says

Most airport limousine bus routes include one checked-size bag per passenger as part of the standard fare. Additional bags may or may not be accepted depending on:

  • Available space in the baggage compartment
  • The specific bus company and route
  • Driver discretion at the point of boarding

There is no universal “pay for a second ticket and bring more bags” policy across all routes. Some routes and some drivers accept extra bags for an additional fee; others refuse if the compartment is full or if they choose not to accommodate it.

Does the Boarding Stop Matter?

Yes — significantly. If you board at an earlier stop before the bus fills up (which for routes like 6002 means boarding before Hongik Station), there is more compartment space available and drivers are more likely to accommodate extra luggage.

Boarding at a later, busier stop when the compartment is already partially full makes acceptance of three large bags much less likely regardless of what you offer to pay.

What to Expect in Practice

Community experience suggests that three large suitcases on an airport bus is a grey area. Some people do it without issue, especially on early morning runs or from early boarding stops. Others have been refused or asked to wait for the next bus.

If you want to try it: arrive early, board from an uncrowded stop, load the bags efficiently into the compartment yourself, and be polite. Having payment ready for any additional fee the driver requests helps.

If you are not willing to risk being refused at a critical time, use one of the alternatives below.

Less Stressful Alternatives for Three Suitcases

Jumbo taxi (모범 or 대형 택시) — A large sedan or SUV taxi that can accommodate significant luggage. Book through Kakao T selecting the large vehicle option. More expensive than the bus but guaranteed space and door-to-door service.

Call van (콜밴) — A cargo or passenger van booked through Kakao T or similar apps. Designed for groups and luggage. More affordable than a jumbo taxi for heavy loads. Search “콜밴” in Kakao T.

Airport luggage delivery (수하물 배송 or 공항 택배) — A service that collects your bags and delivers them directly to your Seoul address, arriving before or after you do. Available at Incheon Airport service desks. You travel light on the bus and your bags meet you at home. Rates are per bag and weight. Check the Incheon Airport website for current providers and rates.

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) — The direct or all-stop train between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station has no luggage limit. You manage your own bags, but there is no driver to negotiate with and no compartment space constraint. From Seoul Station you can take a taxi or use luggage delivery for the final leg.

Useful Korean for the Bus

  • 짐이 세 개 있어요. 실을 수 있을까요? — I have three pieces of luggage. Can I load them?
  • 추가 요금 내면 돼요? — Can I pay an extra fee?
  • 자리가 있으면 괜찮을까요? — Is it okay if there is space?
